Solar Thermal - Domestic Hot Water
The first, Solar Thermal, uses either 'flat panels' or 'evacuated tube collectors' to capture light, heat and energy from the sun, heating a liquid or gas and transferring this heat to a water cylinder or thermal store to produce domestic hot water.

Solar PV - Lighting & Electricity
The second solar power system uses 'PhotoVoltaic' (PV) solar panels to convert light into electricity using materials called semiconductors. The word photovoltaic is a combination of the words ‘Photo’ (meaning light) and ‘Voltaic’, which refers to the production of electricity.
